Conference Review
"Just a few lines to say how much I enjoyed the 2007 PHC Conference - Blasts, Bullets & Burns held at the Charter Hall, Colchester on 15/09/07. The speakers in particular were all excellent and at times very thought provoking. There were many take home points but to summarise the most important for me was that made by Dr. Steve Oakey in his presentation on Pre-Hospital Care of Burns. The scenario was of a patient found on their front lawn suffering severe burns. The immediate reaction is to treat what you see, and not ask whether the patient ended up on the lawn by falling out of their window, possibly fracturing their spine. The lesson is to look at the whole picture and get the full history of the incident to make a fully considered response. It's not something I would necessarily have thought about before
Saturday and a very important lesson it was indeed. If all the delegates have taken away just one point like this, the value of the conference cannot be overstated."
